The Vatican, having taken note of the “new elements”, reopens the investigation of alleged abuses among “the Pope’s altar boys”. The story involves a former pupil of the San Pio X Preseminary where the students who assist the Pontiff during the liturgical service, study in “Palazzo San Carlo”, a few meters from Casa Santa Marta, Bergoglio residence. The seminarian accused of sexual harassment then became a priest. The scandal broke out after Gianluigi Nuzzi’s recent investigations included in his book, Original Sin (Chiarelettere), and the in the Tv show Le Iene. Thus yesterday, the Holy See, in a note, explained that, following some reports, “from 2013 onwards some investigations were carried out”. They were led by the “superiors of the preseminary”, but also by the “bishop of Como”, because “the community of educators” of Collegio,
l Don Giovanni Folci, belongs to his diocese. Actually, there are two bishops: the present one, Monsignor Oscar Cantoni, and his predecessor Diego Coletti (formerly rector of seminary).
The reported facts “allegedly involved pupils of the same age, some of whom were no longer present in the Institute at the time of the investigations”. These episodes “did not find adequate confirmation”. But, “in consideration of the new elements that have recently emerged, a new investigation is underway to fully shed light on what really happened”. Kamil says that “the growing anxiety at the repetition of the events mentioned, together with the fear of being removed, led me to confide my dismay to my spiritual director, who reported the events in question to the responsible bishop and hierarchical superiors”. But this communication “fell into the void”. The Polish student also says that “in the face of the indifference of the people I thought it was my duty to consult according to a legitimate procedure, I decided to address directly to the Holy See, in particular to the Secretariat of State and to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith”. In the case of the former Holy Office, the lack of intervention is explained by the specific competence on priests and religious, while in this case the alleged abuses or homosexual acts would have occurred among underage seminarians.
